What to see and do

Orkney is a truly magical place with a huge offering of things to see and do. Steeped in history, bursting with vibrant wildlife and breathtaking views, it's hard not to fall in love with these islands.

All of our accommodation is right in the heart of Orkney's vibrant main town Kirkwall. There are many interesting local shops, cafes and restaurants very close by, as well as transport links for visiting other parts of the Orkney's Mainland and to the outer islands beyond.

Historical Sites

For those with an interest in history, don't miss The UNESCO Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site in the West Mainland. Made up of our 4 main archaological sites: Skara Brae, one one Europe's best preserved pre-historic settlements, Maeshow chambered tomb, the Ring of Brodgar and the Stones of Stenness, you will be taken back 5000 years into the past.

Stromness

The picturesque port of Stromness has winding cobbled streets full of quirky shops and galleries. It is also home to the Pier Arts Centre which houses a nationally significant permanent collection of British fine art as well as changing exhibitions and other events.

Outdoor Activities

Diving and sailing in the waters around our coast are popular activities, as well as sea and loch fishing. There are endless walking and hiking routes, from a quick and easy jaunt to the 55 mile St Magnus Way pilgramage route through the Mainland (or a section of it!).

Culture

There are many cultural events and festivals in Orkney throughout the year. St. Magnus Festival is a celebration of the arts which takes place in June and attracts performers from around the globe. The legendary Orkney Folk Festival takes place in May and there are also annual rock and blues festivals. The Orkney International Science Festival takes place every September with events catering for all age groups and interests.

We can't wait to welcome you to Orkney!

All over the Mainland and outlying islands you'll find beautiful coastal walks, sites of historical significance, enchanting natural surroundings and wildlife and of course a warm Orcadian welcome.
